Empowering women across Malawi
Our programme is a core part of our operations and our goal of helping women to fight the effects of HIV/AIDS by tackling poverty, which is a key driver of HIV/AIDS in Malawi and most parts of the world.
Youth programmes were established in 2015 and now there are 30 youth support groups. They are comprised of girls that are infected and those that are not infected by the virus.
MASYAP’s 31 women’s support groups meet regularly and consist of members that are infected, affected and not affected women.
With the support of Steadfast Ways, MASYAP has been able to implement a pilot project supporting vulnerable out of school young members to access small loans and start businesses. Twenty girls from five Youth AIDS Support Groups have each been

MASYAP organised a netball match where BCA Support Group played Chiwembe Support Group. The match was attended by many at a colourful showcase event organised for Steadfast Ways.
MASYAP was represented at a Blantyre City Council AIDS Candlelight Memorial Event. The aim of this year was to launch a fast track campaign. It was held under the theme: Intensifying the fight for health and rights at Nyambadwe Primary
Women Chairladies’ Meeting was held on the 22nd of august 2019 with a sole purpose of allowing chairladies to share challenges, experiences and their expectation from MASYAP. As per tradition, an overview of all programs that the office runs was highlighted by the women’s coordinator.
The August Netball Tournament started on 7th August and was finalized on Friday, 30th august 2019, prizes were awarded the following weekend at Iqra Propagation Center in Blantyre on 8th September 2019.
The MWAYI/MASYAP collaborated apprenticeship program recruits needy young women from MASYAP HIV/AIDS Support Groups to empower them financially and intellectually. The tailoring program officially launched in May 2017. The pilot program recruited five students. MWAYI and MASYAP both work in empowerment of local women and girls both in and out of school.
The event was aimed at educating Muslim women on the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS to meet one of the core objectives of MASYAP.
In the year 2017, MASYAP has managed to include all of its support groups on the loan scheme due to its successful running in the year.
Youth groups met to share experiences and discuss issues affecting their support groups in their various areas.
