The Mai Aisha Sisters and Youth AIDS Programme (MASYAP) continued its commitment to supporting vulnerable communities during September 2026 through activities focused on effective leadership, youth support, and improved access to nutritious food. Throughout the month, MASYAP engaged women and youth support groups while extending nutrition assistance to some of the most vulnerable members within its communities.
Fostering Unity Through Effective Leadership
On 8 September 2026, MASYAP brought together chairladies from support groups in Blantyre, Thyolo, Chiradzulu and Zomba for a leadership meeting held at the MASYAP office. Held under the theme “Fostering Unity Through Effective
Leadership,” the meeting provided an opportunity for chairladies to strengthen their leadership skills, share experiences, discuss challenges, and identify practical ways of promoting unity within their support groups.
The discussions highlighted the importance of effective communication, transparency, respect, teamwork and inclusive decision-making in building strong and united support groups.
Chairladies identified several factors that can contribute to disunity, including gossip and backbiting, favoritism, lack of transparency, poor communication, lack of respect, and competition instead of collaboration. Together, they discussed practical approaches to addressing these challenges, including open communication, fair conflict resolution, mutual respect and greater teamwork.
The meeting also emphasized the important role chairladies play as community leaders. Their responsibilities include mobilizing members, providing guidance and mentorship, maintaining peace and unity within their groups, promoting accountability, and serving as a link between MASYAP and support group members. A key message from the meeting was that effective leadership is not about being in front, but about carrying everyone along. The chairladies renewed their commitment to leading with fairness, honesty, transparency and compassion while promoting unity and sisterhood within their respective groups.
