The Mai Aisha Sisters and Youth AIDS Programme (MASYAP) was invited to attend and present at Blantyre City Council’s event to commemorate World AIDS Day 2014. Held at Manje CCAP ground, the day-long event comprised of speeches including those by the Mayor of Blantyre and guest of honour Mr. Michael Usi, testimonies by HIV positive individuals, dramas performed by local activist groups and entertainment in the form of a karate youth group, Chichiri prisoners and the Gule Wamkulu.
Exhibiting alongside the likes of Gift of the Givers (a social services NGO based in Limbe), Blantyre Police, National AIDS Commission and John Hopkins, MASYAP presented its research paper on microfinance and its support group work to the Mayor and Mr. Usi. In a show of support and representing the organisation, the chairladies of MASYAP’s 19 support groups attended in full force.
