MASYAP’s microfinance programme, started in 2012, now provides small loans ($125 on average) to 147 participating women, and boasts a 100% repayment rate. The DSC043222loans allow the women to start or expand a business, in order to help provide for their families, and to afford them greater economic independence.

Our micro-finance programme is a core part of our operations and our goal of helping women to fight the risk and effects of HIV/AIDS by tackling poverty, which is a key driver of HIV/AIDS in Malawi and most parts of the world.

As part of this, MASYAP offers various training sessions to help the women set up and run their businesses effectively. This is important as it introduces the concepts of cost and profit, to make sure the women’s businesses are worthwhile, and to ensure successful repayment of the loans.
