At MASYAP, our mission to empower and support vulnerable communities remains unwavering. In a recent outreach initiative, we visited 12 support groups across Thyolo, and Blantyre districts to connect with members, monitor their progress, and provide essential guidance. This effort underscores our commitment to fostering growth, resilience, and awareness among our members.
Objectives of the Outreach
The outreach aimed to:
- Follow Up on Member Progress: We assessed how members are advancing in their personal and group goals, offering encouragement and tailored advice to address their challenges.
- Equip Members with Home-Based Care Skills: To improve their ability to manage health conditions effectively, members were trained on vital home-based care practices, emphasizing the care of people living with HIV/AIDS.
- Disseminate New Developments on HIV/AIDS: We updated members on the latest developments in HIV/AIDS, including prevention methods, treatment options, and the importance of regular testing and adherence to medication.
Highlights of the Outreach
- Microfinance Beneficiaries: We visited members participating in the Murabaha microfinance program to monitor the progress of their businesses and offer tailored advice to overcome challenges. These efforts aim to ensure the sustainability and growth of their enterprises.
- Youth Members: In addition to equipping youth support groups with life skills and health information, we introduced netball activities as a way of keeping girls engaged and physically active. This not only promotes physical well-being but also fosters teamwork, discipline, and a sense of community among the girls.
- Women Members: Women’s support groups were updated on critical health information, trained on hygiene practices, and empowered to play a leading role in creating healthier households and communities.
