In September 2024, the MASYAP women and youth coordinators, together with the HIV Testing Services (HTS) Provider, conducted a series of visits to various women and youth support groups. The sessions focused on critical health issues and improving individual well-being, with an emphasis on HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention, as well as hygiene practices
During the discussions, participants explored how HIV (the virus that destroys CD4 cells, which are vital in fighting diseases) spreads and how to avoid contracting the virus. Key transmission methods identified include:
- Unprotected sexual intercourse
- Sharing needles, syringes, or drug injection equipment
- Mother-to-child transmission during pregnancy
The discussion also highlighted the “ABC” prevention methods:
- Abstinence
- Being faithful
- Condom use
The Importance of Hygiene.
Hygiene was discussed as a key factor in preventing diseases and maintaining good health. Cleanliness practices, which help reduce the spread of infections, were stressed as essential for all members to adopt in their daily.
In addition to health discussions, the MASYAP women coordinator emphasized the importance of food security for MASYAP members. She remarked that, “food security is a crucial determinant of whether people can lead an active and healthy life, as it directly impacts access to the nutrients needed for well-being.” MASYAP continues to advocate for sustainable food practices to enhance community health.
