HIV testing services resume after four years
Working with Blantyre District Health Office, MASYAP has restarted HIV testing, reaching an average of 50 women and girls per session.
On 25 May 2021, after a break of four years, MASYAP resumed providing HIV testing services (HTS) in partnership with the Blantyre District Health Office. An average of 50 women and girls are tested at each session.
Why
Muslim women and young people living with HIV are socially and economically marginalised by stigma and discrimination. MASYAP has therefore developed community interventions in Blantyre, Chiradzulu and Thyolo districts.
What the project aims to do
- Reach and test Muslim women and young people who cannot otherwise access HIV testing.
- Refer those who have not enrolled for antiretroviral treatment because of stigma to care.
- Support the government’s efforts to reach the UN 95-95-95 targets by 2030.
- Improve the economic situation and wellbeing of Muslim women and young people on treatment, through loans, nutritional support and more.
